As a foundation, the SpecDoctor Tool first uses climatic data from 30,000 + weather stations across the country using a proprietary software. Building on this foundation the SpecDoctor Tool then factors in various air pollutant species that contribute to acid rain and atmospheric pH. Factor in various atmospheric electrolytes and the SpecDoctor Tool estimates the corrosion potential of the macro environment to generate a SpecDoctor corrosion potential level, SD-1 through 4. This corrosion potential level is then neatly tied directly to US postal zip code locations.

During the dynamic specification creation process you answer several simple questions such as zip code, desired color, desired gloss and service life to first major maintenance of the coating system. Service life is expressed in three different categories, 2 - 6 years, 7 - 14 years or greater than 14 years.
